Amyris is committed to delivering renewable products that enable a sustainable future.
We believe that our products not only help reduce the world’s dependence on fossil fuels and other non-renewable resources, but also represent an opportunity to drive to sustainability without compromising on performance.
Integral to the Amyris core values is environmental, social and economic responsibility. This comprehensive approach for sustainability -- often referred to as triple bottom line -- guides our commercialization activities to create a positive impact on both our local communities and the planet.
Amyris offer No Compromise® products that satisfy the performance specifications of non-renewable products while at the same time reducing environmental impact.
We are initially focused our production of Biofene using Brazilian sugarcane as our feedstock. Why? Because sugarcane remains the most abundant source of plant sugars at low cost and with relative price stability. Brazil’s favorable climate and soil conditions help make sugarcane one of the most photosynthetically efficient plants widely available on earth.
Carbon lifecycle analysis using sugarcane as a feedstock showed that Amyris renewable diesel could contribute to a greater than 80% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions compared to ultra-low sulfur diesel, and that use of Amyris chemicals could sequester as much a three tons of carbon dioxide per ton of chemicals used. And, thanks to our collaboration with our partners, we have shown that our engineered yeast strains are capable of utilizing cellulosic sugars, paving the way for even greater environmental benefit.
We are working with a number of partners to drive sustainability. For instance, as part of our demonstration flights, we invited independent experts such as World Wildlife Fund to evaluate the carbon footprint of our renewable jet fuel, which we believe will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the growing aviation industry. We have also joined Bonsucro, the world’s leading sugarcane sustainability standard, and the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB). We are committed to working with RSB and Bonsucro and others to further reduce the impact of our operations on the environment and improve our sustainable practices.
Social and Community Involvement
At Amyris, we seek to improve the lives of the communities where we operate. Whether teaching science to children in California or supporting social and healthcare programs in Brazil, we are actively pursuing ways to make a positive impact in those closest to us.
As we seek to help our communities, we remain focused on the greater impact our technology can have in the world. As we have shown in helping develop an anti-malarial drug, Amyris's breakthrough science can address some of the world's most daunting problems.
