Ralph AlexanderDirectorRalph Alexander, managing director at Riverstone LLC, has over 25 years of experience and proven success in the oil and gas and petrochemicals sector. Most recently, Mr. Alexander was chief executive officer of Innovene, the olefins and derivatives subsidiary of British Petroleum (BP). Prior to Innovene, Mr. Alexander held various executive level positions at BP, including CEO of gas, power & renewables; CEO of air BP; and group vice president responsible for new market development. Mr. Alexander holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in nuclear engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic. He was also a Sloan Fellow at Stanford University, where he earned an M.B.A. John DoerrDirectorJohn Doerr is a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Mr. Doerr joined KPCB in 1980, and with KPCB’s partners backed many of America’s best-known entrepreneurial leaders. He was founding CEO of Silicon Compilers, a CAD software company, and co-founder of the first broadband cable network, @Home. Mr. Doerr came to Silicon Valley in 1974 and joined a small chipmaker, Intel, just as it invented the legendary 8080 microprocessor. He worked in engineering, marketing, and sales, where he was a top-ranked sales executive. Geoff Duyk, M.D., Ph.DDirectorPrior to joining TPG Biotech in 2004, Dr. Duyk served on the board of directors and was president of R&D at Exelixis. Prior to Exelixis, Dr. Duyk was one of the founding scientific staff at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Duyk was an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School (HMS) in the Department of Genetics and assistant investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Dr. Duyk holds a Ph.D. and M.D. from Case Western Reserve University and completed his medical and fellowship training at University of California, San Francisco. While at UCSF, Dr. Duyk was a fellow of the Lucille P. Markey Foundation and was also awarded a post-doctoral fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Samir KaulDirectorSamir Kaul is a founding partner at Khosla Ventures. Prior to Khosla Ventures, Mr. Kaul was a member of the life science team at Flagship Ventures. During that time, he was the founding CEO of two Flagship startups, Codon Devices and Epitome Biosystems, and part of the founding team of a third Flagship startup, Helicos BioSciences. Prior to Flagship, Mr. Kaul worked at the Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR). At TIGR, Mr. Kaul led the Arabidopsis thaliana sequencing project, the first plant genome to be completely sequenced. Arthur LevinsonDirectorArthur Levinson serves as chairman of Genentech, Inc., having joined the company in 1980 as a research scientist. During his time at Genentech, Art has served as vice president of research technology, vice president of research, senior vice president of research, senior vice president of research and development, and as chief executive officer. Additionally, Levinson is a director of Apple, Inc., a director of NGM Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., and a former director of Google. He also serves on the Board of Scientific Consultants of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, on the Industrial Advisory Board of the California Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research, on the Advisory Council for the Princeton University Department of Molecular Biology, on the Advisory Council for the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics, and on the Executive Council of TechNet. John MeloChief Executive OfficerJohn Melo has more than 20 years of combined experience as a business leader and expert in the global fuels industry. Before joining Amyris, Mr. Melo was President of U.S. fuels operations for British Petroleum, where he successfully led programs to increase marketing volumes, reduce costs, and significantly improve financial returns. During his eight years with BP, Mr. Melo also served as Chief Information Officer of the refining and marketing segment; Senior Advisor for e-business strategy to Lord Browne, BP group chief executive; and Director of global brand development. In this last role, he helped develop the “Helios” re-branding effort. Before joining BP, Mr. Melo was with Ernst & Young and a member of the management teams for several startup companies, including Computer Aided Services and Alldata Corporation. Patrick PichetteDirector and Chair of the Audit CommitteePatrick Pichette has 20 years of experience in international financial operations and management in the telecommunications sector. Mr. Pichette joined Google in 2008 as senior vice president and chief financial officer, following seven years at Bell Canada. At Bell Canada, he held various executive positions, including CFO. Prior to joining Bell Canada, Mr. Pichette was a partner at McKinsey & Company. He also served as vice president and chief financial officer of Call-Net Enterprises, a Canadian telecommunications company. Mr. Pichette earned a BA in Business Administration from Université du Québec à Montréal and an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, where he attended as a Rhodes Scholar. Carole PiwnicaDirectorCarole Piwnica brings extensive experience in corporate leadership to Amyris. She is currently a director of Naxos UK, and non-executive director of Toepfer International GmbH, Dairy Crest Group plc, and Aviva plc. She is also a member of the biotech advisory board of Monsanto. Formerly Ms. Piwnica was a non-executive director and vice-chairman of governmental affairs for Tate & Lyle plc, a non-executive director of S A Spadel N.V., and former chairman of Amylum Group. Kinkead Reiling, Ph.D.Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Corporate DevelopmentKinkead Reiling, Ph.D., brings his experience linking protein structures to biocatalyst development to his work at Amyris. Dr. Reiling received a doctorate from the University of California, San Francisco, studying the structure-function relationships of viral and mammalian proteases. He earned an M.S. in applied physics from Columbia University and a B.S. in physics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Reiling also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the American Cancer Society, where he studied the production of monoterpenes and diterpenes in microbial systems. Fernando Reinach, Ph.D.DirectorFernando is a general partner at Votorantim Novos Negócios, the venture capital and private equity arm of Votorantim, a large private industrial group in Brazil. Fernando holds a biology degree from the University of São Paulo and a Ph.D. from Cornell University Medical College. He was a Biotechnology Research Fellow from the Rockefeller Foundation and a Research Scholar of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He was also involved in the creation of two companies before joining Votorantim New Business as a partner. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Amyris, Fernando serves as an advisor to Amyris’ majority-owned Brazilian subsidiary, Amyris-Crystalsev Biofuels where his expertise in science and business combined with his leadership in shaping Brazil’s biotechnology industry is being used to help commercialize Amyris fuels in Brazil. |
