Carole Piwnica joins Amyris Board of Directors

EMERYVILLE, CA (October 1, 2009) -- Amyris Biotechnologies, Inc. today announced that Carole Piwnica has joined the Amyris Board of Directors. Ms. Piwnica brings extensive experience in corporate leadership, and is currently a non-executive director of Toepfer International GmbH, Dairy Crest Group plc, and Aviva plc. She is also a member of the biotech advisory board of Monsanto. Ms. Piwnica is a director of Naxos UK, a private equity fund that participated in the Amyris Series C round.

Formerly Ms. Piwnica was a non-executive director and vice-chairman of governmental affairs for Tate & Lyle plc, a non-executive director of S A Spadel N.V., and former chairman of Amylum Group. Ms. Piwnica joins other Amyris board members Ralph Alexander of Riverstone , John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Samir Kaul of Khosla Ventures, Geoff Duyk of TPG Biotechnology, and Fernando Reinach of Votorantim Novos Negocios.
